Block (NYSE: SQ) is a global technology company with a focus on financial services. Made up of Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD54566975, we build tools to help more people access the economy. Square helps sellers run and grow their businesses with its integrated ecosystem of commerce solutions, business software, and banking services.

Who owns square & block?

Jim McKelvey and Jack Dorsey launched Square, Inc., a merchant-services and mobile-payment platform, in 2009. Square Inc. changed its name to Block, Inc in December 2021 to account for its growth and increased portfolio of companies. Starting in 2017, the company's Cash App began allowing merchants to use bitcoin in the technology.

Is square a blockchain company?

Payments company Square has a new name befitting its CEO's blockchain obsession. The company encompasses not only Square but the personal payment service Cash App, the music service Tidal, and a nascent crypto-based open developer platform called TBD54566975.
